Signers requiring documents to be notarized present their identification electronically, sign documents digitally using a smartphone, tablet, laptop, desktop, or iPad, and have them notarized by a remote notary. The notary signs the document using electronic seals and signatures.

📍 RON Laws Across the U.S.

Remote notarizations performed by a state-authorized online notary are valid in all 50 states when completed under that state’s laws. Some states don’t authorize their own notaries to perform RON, but they accept notarizations from states that do.

Below is a map of the states that have enacted RON laws. States shaded in red (Alabama, California, District of Columbia, Georgia, Mississippi) Do Not Allow notaries commissioned in their states to perform RON signings - but out-of-state RON notarizations are legal and accepted.
